The Ryan Health Network
Brian McIndoe, MPA
President and Chief Executive Officer
On March 2, 2015, Mr. McIndoe, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the William F. Ryan Community Health Network for the past six years, was selected as the new President and CEO of the William F. Ryan Community Health Network. As the CFO, Mr. McIndoe restored the Ryan Network’s financial health after a difficult economic downturn, and with the current healthcare landscape on the local, state and national level, his expertise in fiscal matters is important to ensuring the continued success of the Ryan Network. Prior to joining the Ryan Network, Mr. McIndoe, who holds an MPA in Health Administration, served as Chief Financial Officer at two acute care facilities in New Jersey and has over 30 years of administrative health care experience including mergers and acquisitions, strategic business plans, bond issues, budgeting, financial reporting/auditing, and managed care/regulatory rate development.
Jonathan Swartz, MD, MBA
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Jonathan Swartz joined the Ryan Network on June 15, 2015 as the Chief Medical Officer. Before joining the Ryan Network, Dr. Swartz served as Regional Medical Director of Montefiore Medical Group and has been affiliated with Montefiore Medical Center since 2000. Dr. Swartz also has previous experience with Community Health Centers, and has been an assistant professor in the department of family medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx since 1989. He graduated from the University of Connecticut Health Center Medical School and earned an MBA in the physician executive MBA program at the University of Tennessee. Since 2000 he has served on Montefiore Medical Centers Montefiore Quality Council, the board of directors of Montefiore IPA and the Groups Peer Review Committee. Dr. Swartz brings a wealth of experience and knowledge working with patient populations that mirror those of the Ryan Network.
Jose Virella, MBA, M. Ed.
Chief Financial Officer
Jose J. Virella joined the Ryan Network on July, 28th, 2015 as the Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Virella brings to the Ryan Network over 20 years of experience of working in complex work environments; analyzing and streamlining systems and processes; and building bridges with a multitude of cultures and experiences. Previously, Mr. Virella worked as the Chief Financial Officer at the Callen-Lorde Community Health Center, as Vice President of Administration for Neurosciences at Continuum Health Partners, and as Vice President of Finance and Administration and Senior Vice President at the Jewish Communal Fund. He received his B.A. in Psychology from Columbia University, 1988, an M.B.A. in Finance, Organizations and Markets from the University of Rochester, 1992, and an M.Ed. in Adult and Organizational Behavior from Temple University, 2005.
Ana Taras, MPH
Chief of Strategic Development
Ana A. Taras first joined the Ryan Network in 1994. Throughout her 20-year tenure, she has served in various capacities, including as Director of Planning and Development, and later as Chief Planning and Development Officer. Ms. Taras is responsible for leading the organization’s strategic development and planning activities, and has oversight for more than $15M in annual public/private sponsorships and government contracts. Ms. Taras’ expertise includes program planning and development and Health Resource and Services Administration grant programming, especially BPHC/Health Center and HAB/Ryan White Programs. Ms. Taras left the Ryan Network in 2012 to become Senior Consultant at Health Management Associates (HMA). She came back in 2013 in her current role. She is a member of NACHC’s Regulatory Committee and of other organizations. Ms. Taras holds a MPH from Columbia University and a BS from Tufts University.
Jonathan Fried, Esq.
Jonathan Fried became General Counsel for the William F. Ryan Community Health Network in May 2011. In addition to his role as chief legal advisor, he oversees the provider enrollment and medical records functions. Prior to joining the Ryan Network, Mr. Fried was a litigation associate at Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP for almost fifteen years. He graduated from NYU Law School in 1997, and received his B.A. from Wesleyan University in 1989. Prior to his legal career, he worked and taught in New York City junior high schools. He grew up in Park Slope, Brooklyn, where he still lives with his wife and two daughters.
Jessina Carroll Wachtelhausen, BSN
Chief Nursing Officer
Jessina Carroll Wachtelhausen, BSN, returned to the Ryan Network in January 2017 as the Chief Nursing Officer. Ms. Wachtelhausen holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Russell Sage College in Troy, New York, where she received the Seton Health Excellence in Pediatrics Award. Prior to joining the Ryan Network, Ms. Wachtelhausen served as the Administrative Nurse Manager at the Montefiore Medical Group’s Family Care Center, and she has also held managerial and administrative positions at The Children’s Aid Society, Manhattan’s Physician Group, and at our very own Ryan/Chelsea-Clinton Community Health Center.
Barbara Hood, MBA
Chief Information Officer
Barbara Hood, Chief Information Officer, came to Ryan in 2008 after working as Chief Information Officer at the Community Health Case Association of New York State (CHCANYS) for three years. With over twenty years of experience working with information technology systems, Ms. Hood leads the Health Information Technology program for the Ryan Network. Ms. Hood has a Masters in Information Sciences from the University of Michigan (1972), a Master’s in Business Administration from Fordham University (1974) and was a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (1989). Barbara is co-chair of the IT Committee of the Mt. Sinai DSRIP PPS and is an active member of the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS).
Lisa Marie Feliciano
Chief Human Resources Officer
Lisa Marie Feliciano came to Ryan in 2016 after working as Senior Vice President, Human Resources at Independence Care System for eight years. With nearly twenty years of experience working in human resources and organizational development, Ms. Feliciano leads the Human Resources functions for the Ryan Network. Ms. Feliciano has a Master in Business Administration from Baruch’s Zicklin School of Business and is dually certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (2007) and SHRM Senior Certified Professional (2015). She is an active member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA).
