Junior Accountant

Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Senior Accountant, the Junior Accountant will assist in the processing of the Center’s monthly financial statements with specific focus on processing and analysis of the Center’s cash receipts. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of the Ryan Health.

Essential Functions:

Preparation and control of Cash Receipts Journal including verification of daily Cashier’s deposits. Prepare monthly reconciliations of all Center bank accounts as well as maintain statement files, document orders, and all miscellaneous bank inquiries. Prepare monthly journal entries related to cash accounts and after approval by the Controller or designee, input to the General Ledger. Maintain Center’s Cash Position statement and related schedules daily and monthly, including all cash related transfers and instructions to defined benefit plan. Prepare Monthly Cash Assessment worksheet and Public Goods Pool. Prepare Monthly Schedule of Center’s Fixed Assets. Assist with Accounts Payable duties as necessary. Review input of cleared checks into the Accounts Payable System by the Accounting Clerk. Assist in preparation of Budget Reports for Governmental Agencies, Statistical Reports and other projects. Assist in the Annual Audits of three Center entities. Maintains financial records for subsidiary companies by analyzing balance sheets and general ledger accounts. Reconciles general and subsidiary bank accounts by gathering and balancing information. Provides financial status information by preparing special reports; completing special projects. Maintains general ledger accounts by reconciling accounts receivable detail and control accounts; adjusting entries for amortizations and prepaid schedules; analyzing and reconciling aged and accounts payable ledgers; preparing fixed asset, depreciation and accruals. Maintains accounting controls by following policies and procedures; complying with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements. Immediately report any problems or unusual occurrences to supervisor. Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Experience and Skills Required:

Two-three years’ experience in an Accounting Department. Must be proficient with use of personal computer and software including Excel and Word.

Education, Licenses and/or Certification Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or currently enrolled in an accredited College or University working towards same degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with accounting software would be a plus.

Minimal Training Time:

90-day introductory period.

Work Environment

The work is primarily in a mental health clinic and/or general primary care setting which includes the unpredictability in behaviors of individuals and acute and chronic infectious diseases which may be contagious. Adequate preparation and precaution is necessary.
