Outreach Worker / Driver- Ryan Health | Women & Children’s

Position Overview:

The Outreach Worker/Driver will provide direct services, as part of an outreach team, to prevent the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections along with informing people in the community about Ryan Health’s Prevention Education and Outreach program. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Ryan Health.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop a profile of the community to provide case finding activities, identify population and communities targeted by the HIV Outreach team.
  • Deliver street-based education and risk reduction demonstration to targeted populations and the community.
  • Provide HIV pre-test and post–test counseling as needed. Perform OraSure and 4th generation rapid HIV tests.
  • Develop and expand a network of contacts in the community including: churches and other faith-based organizations, community-based organizations, schools, local businesses, support groups, drug treatment centers, other services providers.
  • Organize the distribution of health education materials such as condoms, dental dams, health education literature and Public Service Announcements in the community via the mobile unit.
  • Assist the Supervising Health Educator at workshops held in the center, community and other agencies.
  • Update professional knowledge of current developments in the field of HIV/AIDS/STI/PrEP/PEP by attending regular training sessions on and off site.
  • Ensure client and patient records are maintained in accordance with agency protocols and standards.
  • Practice accepted infection control measures in accordance with OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standards and the Center’s policies and procedures.
  • Collect data, complete documentation in electronic health records and submit encounters daily during outreach and on-site activities.
  • Drive the outreach van while conducting nighttime and weekend outreach as assigned.
  • Register new patients to the Center and make Ryan Center appointments for patients.
  • Maintain inventory of all educational and outreach materials and supplies, order outreach supplies and educational materials in conjunction with the Director of Support Services and the Supervising Health Educator.
  • Perform one-to-one risk reduction and HIV Prevention group sessions on site with people referred to the program and during outreach.
  • Must demonstrate a professional, courteous and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, immediate supervisor and other employees.
  • Immediately report any problems unusual occurrences to supervisor.
  • Participate in Center activities such as health fairs, tabling, presentations, conferences and screenings.
  • Refer people to Ryan Health and outside agencies for services based upon their needs.
  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education, Experience and/or Skills Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED; some college preferred.
  • Clean and valid Driver’s license/CDL.
  • At least one year of experience providing outreach.
  • Trained in HIV Testing and experience required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HIV/AIDS/STIs and HIV testing.
  • Effective communication and writing skills.

Education, Experience and/or Skills Preferred:

  • Spanish or French speaking preferred.
  • HIV testing Training
  • Strong computer literacy with proficiency in standard office software/hardware such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint

Probation Period:

  • 90-day probation period.
