SBHC Icon

Ryan Health School-Based Health Centers conveniently offer healthcare services to students during the school day. Because of their location, School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) make it easy for busy students with busy parents to receive primary care and preventive health services.

If your child is enrolled in a School-Based Health Center they will get the same care at school that they would get at one of Ryan Health's main centers, including:

  • Annual physical exams (including those for sports, camp, and working papers)
  • Vaccines
  • Treatment for chronic and acute illnesses
  • Medications and prescriptions
  • Screening for vision, hearing, asthma, obesity, and other medical conditions
  • Referrals to specialty care if needed
  • Mental health services

School-Based Health Centers provide services that are supplementary to the services your child already receives from their primary care provider. The School-Based Health Center does not replace your child’s primary care provider.

Questions

What is a School-Based Health Center (SBHC)?

The School-Based Health Center (SBHC) is a medical center conveniently located within the school. It allows children to access primary care services without missing school and without their parents having to take time away from work. School-Based Health Centers have been proven to lower the chance of an emergency room visit during the school day. If your child has a chronic illness, or suddenly gets sick at school, a School-Based Health Center is able to provide necessary healthcare to enable your child to stay in school when possible.

What if my child already has a doctor?

If your child already has a doctor, then the School Based Health Center staff will work along with the care that your child’s doctor provides to make sure your child gets the best care both in and out of school.

What is the cost?

There is no out-of-pocket cost for the services provided by the School-Based Health Center. Students will not be billed for the care they receive. However, SBHCs do bill Medicaid and private insurance directly.

How can my child enroll?

To enroll your child in one of Ryan Health’s School-Based Health Centers, sign the parent consent form and bring the form to the SBHC or complete the form on your computer, tablet, or phone and send it to school@ryanhealth.org.

Hours of Operation

The SBHC is open every day when school is in session during school hours.
