Chair of the Afia Foundation

Carlos Cuevas is a dedicated community leader and public servant who serves as the Board Chair of the Afia Foundation. Afia is charged with supporting healthcare initiatives that support low-income individuals and communities facing barriers to care, and provides significant grants supporting Ryan Health and Ryan Chelsea-Clinton.

His 60-year professional career focused on helping to enrich the lives of residents of New York City. As a health care administrator, Carlos served in senior leadership roles at Bronx Lebanon Hospital and Hunt’s Point Multi-Service Center. As a public servant, Carlos was appointed to senior administrative roles including Deputy Bronx Borough President and New York City Clerk.

A lifelong resident of the Bronx, Carlos Cuevas is a product of the New York City Public School System, graduated from Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, and was the beneficiary of youth development programs. Carlos went on to earn his Master’s in Public Administration from New York University.

Carlos has been an active member of community organizations throughout New York City. In addition to his role at the Afia Foundation, he served as a board member of the New York Junior Tennis League, a national committee member of the United States Tennis Association, and a former Trustee of Boricua College.
