Ryan Health | Frederick Douglass in Harlem and Ryan Health | Wadsworth in Washington Heights Expand Practices, Including Pediatrics, In Time For Back-To-School Checkups

NEW YORK — Ryan Health, a mission-driven network of community health centers in Manhattan, has expanded its practices in Harlem and Washington Heights. Lauren Michelle Perry, DO will practice at Ryan Health | Frederick Douglass, joined by Junko Nishita, MD, PhD. Dr. Nishita will also practice at Ryan Health | Wadsworth, along with physician assistant Gabriella Hayes, MPH, MS-PAS. The addition of new pediatric care is especially important for children in Harlem and Washington Heights as they prepare to re-enter the classroom this fall. The team is already seeing patients for check-ups and vaccinations.

In addition, Ryan Health pediatricians are available to administer the Covid-19 vaccine to children age 12 and up. To schedule an appointment for the Covid-19 vaccine, call 212-769-7213.

Dr. Junko Nishita joins Ryan Health from Gramercy Pediatrics in New York City, as well as telemedicine pediatric services with Face to Face Health in New York, Kids Public and Halmek Ventures, both in Tokyo, Japan. She also serves as a medical officer with Cyn-K, a medical research company in New York. She is a member of the American Academy of Physicians Assistants. She comes with previous healthcare experience from Cahaba Pain and Spine Care in Birmingham, AL and Eastern Shore Children’s Clinic in Fairhope, AL. “Good health starts young, and we want to get kids off to a healthy start,” says Samuel Bartels, Executive Director of Ryan Health | Wadsworth. “With school starting soon, it’s important to ensure children are healthy, which impacts their ability to learn. That’s good for them, as well as their classmates.”

“Dr. Nishita, Dr. Perry and PA Hayes are excellent additions to our teams. They will allow us to increase the number of patients we can see, including our littlest ones,” says Charles Shorter, Executive Director at Ryan Health | Frederick Douglass.

Children grow and change rapidly during the first three years of their lives. Due to such rapid changes, children are at higher risk for growth concerns, anemia, and developmental delays. As a result, most well-child visits take place during that time, then yearly after their third birthday for a healthy child. Patients who are already enrolled at Ryan Health can see a pediatrician from birth to 21 years of age, new patients can enter pediatric care up to the age of 19. If your child needs to see a specialist, our doctors and nurses work closely with the specialist to ensure coordinated care to properly manage your child’s health.
